On the 22nd April I joined the Chaine Des Rotisseurs for lunch at Marigold in Franschhoek. Beau Constantia sponsored the Wines.
Located on the main street of Franschhoek village, Marigold is housed in Heritage Square, which complements the Leeu Collection hospitality portfolio.
The restaurant interior, with its exposed brickwork, original timber ceiling, subtle geometric wallpaper and riempie screen divider above the fireplace, perfectly complements the mid-century design of the banquette seating and dining chairs in yellow and orange leather. The ceramics on the wall by Johannes Scott add pops of colour to the overall scheme. There is also outdoor seating in the courtyard, which is the social hub of Heritage Square. Marigold can seat 60 guests inside and 20 outside.
Pas de Nom White:
A clear wine that has a light straw colour with a hint of lime green. It boasts uplifting aromas of pear and tropical green melon on the nose, with a creamy, full-flavoured palate that is perfectly balanced by a refreshing minerality. This elegant offering is rich and vibrant with a long finish.
Pas de Nom Red 2015
Dark, rich red in colour. Upfront notes of black cherry and liquorice with underlying hints of a slightly leafy earthiness. The ripe, dark fruit flavours follow seamlessly onto the beautifully rich and structured palate. The wine has excellent texture and mouthfeel; and although being quite full, dense and vibrant it is well balanced by an elegant line of freshness and juicy tannins.
