An Italian Food & Wine Pairing with Nobile Collezione

Yesterday I attended an amazing #food&winepairingdinner with Nobile Collezione. The guests came from all over the Cape Town area, from the Southern Suburbs to all the way from Philideliphia. We arrived as guests and we left as friends. Many Italians that I know would be proud of the spirit which filled the air at the dinner table. Good food, good wine and good friends.

Welcome Drink: Tabarrini Il Padrone delle Vigne Bianco 2015

Intense straw yellow. Clean flavours and beautifully refined, starts with hints of apple, melon and plum followed by aromas of peach, citrus fruits, pear and mineral notes. Crisp acidity and expertly balanced by alcohol, good body, intense flavour and pleasing roundness.
Persistent finish with flavours of melon, peach and plum.

1st Course: Fontanavecchia Sannio Greco 2014       Pairing score – 4/5

– Served with Mackerel Paté and Ciabatta –

One of the oldest and most typical varieties of the Italian region of Campania. The perfume is intense and persistent, fruity (medlar and ripe apple) and floral (camomile).
For the taste, one immediately perceives the broad acidity and the spicy minerality.

Damilano Barbera d’Asti 2011

It presents an intense ruby red color with purple highlights. The bouquet has persistent notes of red berries, red currant, cherries and violet with hints of vanilla. This Barbera has excellent balance and length, and its high acidity makes it a perfect accompaniment to a variety of foods.

2nd Course: Collefrisio Montepulciano d’Abruzzo Filaré 2014    Pairing score – 4/5

– Served with Aglio e Olio Pasta –

A ruby red colour with violet reflections and a strong fruity nose, hints of slightly spicy cherry and plum. A well balanced and lasting finish on the palate.

2nd Course: Collefrisio Montepulciano d’Abruzzo Vignaquadra 2011    Pairing score – 3.5/5

– Served with Aglio e Olio Pasta –

The grape skin is kept in contact with the liquid part for about 15-20 days. The refining is done in steel containers, followed by a partial refining in oak barrels. Ruby red colour. A strong fruity scent, containing hints of spice, cherry plum and jam. A well balanced and lasting taste.

Tabarrini Montefalco Rosso 2011

A DOC classified blend made predominantly from Sangiovese with the addition of Sagrantino and Barbera. The ruby tonality is a prelude to neat, intense perfumes reminiscent of ripe cherries and rose petals. Full bodied on the palate, it retains the structure and sweetness of the fruit without losing freshness or depth. Aged 18 months in French oak barrels and 12 months in the bottle.

3rd Course: Collefrisio Confronto Rosso 2013    Pairing score – 4.5/5

– Served with Lamb Stew with Olives –

An intense ruby red colour. Fruity, with hints of plum, berries and maraschino cherry. Slightly spicy notes. Complex and full-bodied wine, also soft, velvety and very persistent

Thank you so much to our hosts, Marius and Anneke for yet another amazing evening.
